  • Wonderful!! Dr. Bunke and staff are absolutely the best!! I have suffered from chronic pain in my legs for the past 18 years. I have seen many doctors regarding this problem, and each time I was told that there was nothing that could be done, varicose veins are a cosmetic issue and to wear compression socks. I did, but without any relief. So I continued to endure the heaviness, swelling, and awful pain. Tried self-management, taking supplements to support vein health, elevation etc. My left leg was never going to bend without hurting so I kept it extended at all times. If it was bent during the night I was promptly awakened. While standing, I had to keep all my weight on the right leg only, which became very tiring and painful as well; your legs are meant to share the weight of your body. Then one day while struggling through a work-out at my university's gym, I felt a large pop in the back of my leg, followed by tingling and an explosion of pain. I managed to hobble my way into the ER, tears streaming. I was seen by another doctor, who insisted I tightly wrap my leg in an ace bandages....that this would fix the problem and if it doesn't, well, there's nothing else they can do. So I followed instructions, which turned out to be an awful mistake. Three hours later my pain level had went from a 9 to well off the charts. Removing the bandages gave some relief but I was unable to walk on that leg at all. And so it was for the next two weeks, the slightest pressure would have me wincing in terrible pain. I tried to apply the bandage again and again, only to have the same results: a worse outcome. When I stopped trying the wrap, it took about another week to regain mobility. My legs started getting progressively worse during the years that followed…. vigorously massaging the back of my leg while suffering in silence at a comedy show with my husband, tripping people in the isles on airline flights, shaking my leg constantly to try relieving some pressure. My life started becoming completely consumed by my leg problems: I could no longer sit at a desk, or ride in a car without squirming constantly in my seat, movies, dinner, walking, stairs, sleeping, everything was afflicted; even touch was too much, the skin was pulled so tight, it was so tender. By the end of the day I was raw and sometimes even bleeding from my socks cutting so deep into my swollen ankles. For months I couldn’t sleep, waking up every night six or seven times. I was losing my mind, I cried and cried. I couldn’t go on like this anymore. So I spent a week researching the best care facilities, to find relief, to gain my life and health back. The most highly rated facility was La Jolla Vein Care. I warily went in for a consultation. At my appointment I started to tell my story and I couldn’t help bursting into tears. I was terrified that I would receive the same excuses and lack of treatment. I was comforted by Dr. Bunke and all the staff, they were incredibly patient, compassionate, and kind. They understood my pain and was prepared to give me the care I so desperately needed. They had all the answers to my questions, and most importantly, a solution to my problems. They worked with my insurance, and after two radio-frequency ablation procedures, and two procedures of sclerotherapy, I feel great!! For the first time in almost 20 years, that pain is gone! I can’t believe it! I slept a full 8 hours for the first time in almost a year. I have a spring in my step, I feel so relieved, energetic, like I have a new lease on life! I can’t wait to sit through a movie, have a leg massage, wear knee high socks, ride my bicycle, sit cross-legged around a campfire, and be able to finally stand again on both feet. To Dr. Bunke and everyone at La Jolla Vein Care: thank you so much, you are wonderful!!!!!
